2) Seismic strengthening of reinforced concrete structuresReinforced or prestressed concrete structures built before about 1985 are generallynot sufficiently resistant to strong earthquakes expected in several regions of theworld, because the design standards valid at that time did not contain sufficientlystringent design and detailing provisions in respect to seismic excitations. Therefore,such structures should be strengthened to ensure the required safety in case ofstrong earthquakes. Often the shear capacity of beams or slabs is too small.The aim of the following research proposal is to develop methods and design as wellas detailing provisions to increase the shear capacity of beams and slabs with screwanchors of company Sheh Kai such that a ductile failure due to yielding of thebending reinforcement (which is able to take up the moments induced byearthquakes) is ensured.
