Emojis, a pictographic system created to express notions that were too long to type, including emotions, developed quickly in Japan, and then worldwide when they entered the Unicode standard, ensuring cross-platform interoperability, and when major mobile phone, email and social network providers made them available to all users. Emojis quickly increased in number and sophistication, as interfaces are constantly refined, drawings, animated or applications, endowed with facial recognition, emoji-to-speech and prediction and replacement software.
