Outdoor Plants
Many of your favorite outdoor shrubs, vines and ground covers can be easily propagated by cuttings.
Softwood Cuttings
Softwood cuttings are prepared from the soft, succulent, new flush of growth. Many ornamental plants can be propagated by softwood cuttings including lilacs, forsythia, magnolia, weigela, oleander, pyracantha, spirea, apple, peach, pear and plum. While softwood cuttings tend to root easily and faster, they may require more care since the soft tissue is more susceptible to drying. In general, with softwood cuttings, we are talking about cuttings that are typically 3 to 4 inches long, with two to three nodes and the basal leaves removed before inserting the cutting into the media.Hardwood Cuttings
