Should the acquirer indicate at dispute response / pre-arbitration that the merchant processed a credit (TC 06), the issuer should accept the credit by taking no further action. However, if a financial loss still exists due to a difference between the sale and credit or if the credit was applied to a different transaction, the issuer should address the true nature of the dispute. If a credit applies to a different transaction not in dispute, the issuer must provide details of that transaction and indicate why additional credit is due. Visa does not consider statements such as “credit is not applicable” or “credit does not apply” as valid and may return an unfavorable ruling and assess review fees of USD 500 or USD 750 for a bundled case (EUR 500 or EUR 750 for Europe intraregional cases).
