Great stay in an authentic Hanok
Location, Cleanliness and Authenticity
Really enjoyed a two night stay at the Kame. It was super-clean with great, hot shower - very important for me so if it is for you too, nothing to worry about there. Mini-fridge in the room is always appreciated, decoration was tasteful. Of course you are sleeping on an Ondol, which is the authentic Hanok thing. Yes my back ached a little after that but I'm a westerner and not used to it so can't complain about that. The Ondol is an extremely thin "mattress" so if you're not ready for that, try out a guest house. The common grounds are beautiful and while not as expansive as they look in the pictures (that's always the case isn't it?) they are very easy to appreciate. Try sitting around in the yard for a few minutes late at night, very tranquil. The location could not be much better - 3 minute walk from one of the two major palaces and only a 15 minute walk to the other. Lots of great dining options in the area and while a little touristy, still easy to find authentic local food. Less than 5 minutes to the metro station and can get anywhere in Seoul from there. The only complaint I had (and truly not a huge one) is that after check-in and breakfast served in the A.M., it was impossible to find any of the staff. I was hoping to get ask a few questions, get some local advice but that was impossible. If you had something urgent to speak with them about...good luck. Anyway, it was fantastic and highly recommended!
