Many coats of paint, I can't tell the kind of wood due to the paint, but the dowels appear to be pine?!
Excellent condition, the dowels can be removed by unscrewing.
The finial itself measures 2 ¾" long, 1¾" across, threaded dowel screws are 5/8" thick and vary in lengths due to them being screwed into the finial.
