The use of nontraditional materials

The use of nontraditional materials such as soil-rock mixtures in
earthworks construction, for economic and environmental reasons,
brings new challenges to dam engineering. Usually, this kind of
material results from bulky rock extraction without explosives, and
it can include some oversized particles (approximately 0.5 m or
larger).
