increased water, sewer, and other utility line construction and their long-term maintenance; lowering municipal tax revenues in relation to the cost of providing infrastructure and related services; inducing the relocation of people from central parts of cities and inner suburbs; increasing the export of sediment, nutrients and other chemicals from former rural areas; increased lengths of streams/rivers and other natural water bodies in direct proximity to urban populations, with adverse consequences for their habitats; and, decreasing wildlife habitats.
