IKEA entered Russia in 2000 as a "last big hobby" for founder Ingvar Kamprad, then age 81. Amid large changes in culture and a great deal of training, IKEA was a huge success with its "mega-malr" business model. The first store in Russia drew 40,000 shoppers on the first day, and as of 2016 IKEA operates 14 stores with approximately 200 million visitors each year.
