Ecological restoration of selected river sections: the self-purification ability of rivers can be increased by restoration of the habitat (see Chapter 5) and its related biotic structure in land-water ecotones, floodplains, wetlands and adjacent landscape. The experiments in Lodz’s rivers show that adapting vegetation communities to habitats’ hydrological features may increase their ability for providing the required services (see Figure 9.10).
