Ecohydrological adaptation of hydrotechnical infrastructure: the assimilative capacity of constructed ponds and reservoirs can be enhanced by ecohydrology measures, such as adjusting reservoir hydrodynamics; shaping the biotic structure of reservoirs to increase their capacity against pollution and eutrophication symptoms; and adapting the hydrodynamics of biofilters at stormwater outlets for allocating nutrients into unavailable pools and preventing the flushing of pollutants during storm flows. Water quality is particularly important, since the reservoirs also serve as recreational areas for nearby residents.
