有大部分同学不赞成开设诗歌欣赏课，他们的原因是高中学习紧张，高考很少涉及英文诗歌，纯属浪费时间，并且是个已经衰退，很多青年人不感兴趣；但有少部分赞成开设诗歌欣赏课，他们的原因是开设英文诗歌欣赏课能学到地道的英语从而提高书面英语水平，诗歌是语言的精华，情感表达丰富，而且还可以更多地了解英语的文化背景知识。
