Enrollment rising
THE number of students in Shenzhen will reach 1.55 million in three years, creating a big demand for more spaces in local schools.
Education officials said the increase is mainly caused by rising numbers of newborn babies in recent years in Shenzhen, where the average age is 30.
Wrong bus
A BOY who was mistakenly sent to the wrong schoolbus by his aunt was later found by police.
The 6-year-old boy, Zhou Wenbo, boarded a schoolbus near Luohu People’s Hospital and his aunt, after realizing it was the wrong bus, couldn’t remember its plate number. A police officer surnamed Ou checked the GPS readings of buses in the area and confirmed that Zhou had boarded a bus for Jindaotian School. Ou returned the child to his aunt within four hours.
Furs smuggled
HUANGGANG Customs busted a fur-smuggling ring in a case involving 10 million yuan (US$1.58 million) last week.
It was the largest fur-smuggling case in three years and involved 28,255 mink furs, 1,139 fox furs and 192 fur overcoats. The furs were hidden inside a truck that attempted to enter Shenzhen from Hong Kong on Aug. 30.
The case is still under investigation.
