In 1831, Lincoln first came to Springfield, and by 1837, at the age of 28, Lincoln had officially moved to live in the city, practising as a lawyer and marrying into a family. It was not until Lincoln was elected president in 1861 at the age of 52 that he left for the White House in Washington, D.C., where he lived for 24 years. During his presidency, he made several references to returning to Chuntian city to continue as a lawyer after leaving office. After the assassination of President Lincoln, he was buried in Springfield. The cemetery-wide park is now a tourist attraction.
