In America, the fourth Thursday of November is Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving, families get together for a special feast. They usually eat turkey, potatoes, pumpkin pie and lots of other delicious food.The first Thanksgiving happened in 1621. A group of people from England, called the Pilgrims, arrived in America in 1620. That winter, they didn't have enough food. Over half the Pilgrims died. The next spring, the Native Americans started teaching the Pilgrims how to grow food and hunt.In the fall, the Pilgrims had plenty of food. They decided to have a feast. They wanted to thank God and the Native Americans for their help.Thanksgiving is one of the most important American holidays. It's a time for everyone to be thankful for the many blessings in their lives.
