Obstetric cholestasis (OC) is a pregnancy specific disorder characterised by pruritis in the absence of a skin rash, with abnormal liver function tests for which no other cause can be identified. The usual time of onset is in the third trimester, and both the clinical features and biochemical abnormality should resolve following delivery. Pruritis may be generalised but typically affects the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands.Jaundice may develop in severe cases but is unusual.
