A borderline case would replicate the model case in the situation resulting in the need for remediation. In the borderline case, the clinical faculty member completes the necessary referral and Marjorie meets with the receiving, or remediation faculty member. This meeting consists of a discussion surrounding the rigors of nursing education, and the suggestion that Marjorie reflect on her desire to become a nurse. The meeting fails to develop an educational plan or required remediation schedule or activities. Although Marjorie is aware of remediation activities that occur within the school of nursing, she is unsure how to access them and lacks a referral enabling her to do so. Consequently, Marjorie does not receive the academic remediation critical to her success. She continues in the course but ultimately fails both the clinical and classroom portions of the course.
