Basic Emotions: (a) experienced by people worldwide, and each consists of a subjective feeling, a physiological change, and overt behaviors (e.g., facial expression); (b) include happiness, anger, fear, sadness, surprise, disgust, etc.; (c)Infants initially experience only broad positive vs. negative emotional states but by 6 months, are thought to experience all basic emotions: happiness (social smiles appear at about 2-3 months), fear (stranger wariness appears at 6 months), disgust (parents play an important role) etc.
