All packaging must be approved by the L.L.Bean Packaging Specialists.
All apparel must be individually packaged in a low density polyethylene (LDPE) bag to protect the product from dust, dirt and damage during normal distribution handling and warehousing. The following are L.L.Bean requirements for poly bags:
•All poly bags (unless otherwise specified) must be a minimum film gauge of 1.25 mil. Any poly bags under 1.25 mil require a suffocation safety warning label and must be approved by your Packaging Specialist.
•Poly bags can be made from virgin or recycled resins. All bags must have high clarity.
•Low density polyethylene is the preferred material.
•All poly bags must be free of any traces of formaldehyde, PVC and heavy metals. (see Restricted Substances policy).
•All poly bags must be sealed to prevent the bag from opening during transportation and handling. However, the closure should allow access to contents for inspection without destroying the usefulness of the bag. Poly bags with self-sealing, re-closable adhesive strips are acceptable.
•Pressure sensitive polyester film tape is another acceptable sealing method. The tape must be Butylated Hydroxy-Toluene (BHT) free. The minimum width of the tape should be 1/2 inch (1.27 cm). The number of strips required will vary with the different bag sizes and weight of the product.
•Heat sealing: If the heat-sealing method is used, the bag must have vent holes.
•Do not use staples. Staples are only acceptable for attaching a header card to the bag and are not to be used as the primary method of sealing the bag.
