What are your long term and short term goals?
Make a comprehensive list of goals in all the areas of your life, in work, learning, relationships as each one of them will affect your personal work-life balance and the extent to which you can expect your reporting manager’ to help you.
When you are certain about your goals, you can discuss them with your reporting manager when the time comes, on what you expect from your career and how he/ she can help you to achieving our aims.
If you have too many different goals, will need to prioritize them. As some of them may be incompatible with others, or with your view of life. Once you are clear about what are important to you, you may take up a different path in your job, or change career altogether.
