Because the initial pressure is higher in the modified cycle yet the maximum pressure is the same, the<br>pressure ratio during compression will have to be lower, thus the volume compression ratio (r) will have<br>to be lower in the modified cycle. The initial temperature is the same, so with lower r the temperature<br>after compression is lower. Since the temperature rise due to combustion = fQR/CP is the same, the<br>final temperature will have to be lower. Since the maximum pressure is the same, this means that the<br>final entropy is lower. In order to satisfy these requirements and have the same area under the T-s heat<br>addition curve, the T-s diagram must look like that shown.
