1. Functional Theorizing on Education
All functional theorizing is ultimately concerned with how social structures meet the needs or requisites of a more inclusive social system ( Turner and Maryanski 1979). The most common type of functional analysis is listing of the functions of education in modern societies.
Goslin proceeded to list three basic functions of education for the society: the maintenance and transmission of culture (knowledge, beliefs, values, etc.); the innovation, the discovery, and transmission of new knowledge; and the allocation of individuals to positions in society.
