terms. the hebrew text is uncertain at various points, but this does not affect the general meaning. thus it makes little difference what reading on follows in v1 (cf. the footnote in the rsv). one should not miss the gravity of the despair of the loyal psalmist who does what is right but only suffers for it (vv13-14), and who flirts with deserting to the ranks of wicked. it is only during a visit to the sanctuary (miqdash, which means the temple) that he comes to see their “end”(v17, literally. “after”).
