Road cycling is a sport in which equipment design has a major impact on the cyclist’s overall performance and experience. As this sport has progressed over the years, most of improvements in bicycle design have been focused on reducing the bicycle’s mass and aerodynamic drag, and on increasing stiffness. More recently however, the ride quality of road bicycles has become a more desirable characteristic for users as well as an important design issue for bicycle manufacturers. Once the cyclist is properly positioned (fitted) on the bicycle, one of the important elements contributing to the ride quality is related to the level of vibration transmitted from the road to the cyclist via the various components of the bike.
