How to teach something as complicated as metering to a totally untrained or green student auditor, via Internet comm lines? How to make an auditor from scratch without having him tightly supervised in a course room? Well, from the question itself, the answer comes – to remove anything not strictly necessary for that particular level, and base it on practical and observation by the student.We all know the difficulties and hardships connected with learning metering, and auditing at large.Well, I realized that today, we can limit teaching to TA motion.Can we teach all the details of needle motion via videos and other Internet means? No. Of course not. Which brings us to our second question: does the student needs to know everything about the needle? No, he doesn’t need.At this stage, the student auditor learns that the meter reacts to thought and mass. If he can observe that, we have a very big win. If he can learn how to assess his dynamics using the TA, and if he cognites on the use of the meter, we have a miracle.And if in addition, he learns to hold worksheets, noting TA positions and blowdowns, yeeeepeee! We’ll have an auditor!Today, in solo auditing, I personally observe two main needle actions: the loose and responsive needle and the tight or still needle. Yes, I use the needle to check questions or items but I could as well use assessment by Tone Arm. Checking questions and assessing by instant read is much much above the understanding and ability level of a green student auditor.He does not need a loss from the beginning. He needs to win. And if he can learn to use the Tone Arm and if he understand the Tone Arm motion, he will start to have a good reality on mental mass and charge. If we can get that result, we’ll have a big win.Therefore, I’ll present the course around video demonstration at each step, drilling and immediate application.
