Caregiving is described as an unpaid actof actively providing direct care to someone with physical, psychological, or developmental needs.17 There are 3 types of caregiving identified—instrumental, emotional, and informational.17 Instrumental caregiving involves activities such as cleaning or shopping forthe elderlyordisabled; whereasemotional caregiving includes listening, counseling, and companionship. Informational caregiving, on the other hand, includes learning how to alter the living environment of someone in earlystage dementia.
