PERSONALITY PROFILE OF SUBJECTS ENGAGED IN HIGH PHYSICAL RISK SPORTSSummary-The present study investigated the relationship between some personality traits and participation in high physical risk sports. Twenty-seven alpinists, 72 mountaineering-related sportsmen, 221 sportsmen and 54 subjects not engaged in any risky activity, were administered the Sensation Seeking Scale, the EPQ, the Impulsiveness Scale of the IVE, the Socialization Scale of the CPI, and the Susceptibility to Punishment and Reward Scales. The results seem to indicate that there exists a personality profile of subjects engaged in high physical risk normative activities who share the following characteristics: extraversion, emotional stability, conformity to social norms, and seeking thrill and experience by socialized means.
