Market-driven organizations reflect customer value requirements in their design, roles, and activities. This is a foundation for implementing and managing market-driven strategy. For many companies organizational change is a constant process aimed at achieving this alignment. The market-driven organization is related in part to major trends in organization design on a broader front. Traditional structures-dominated by vertical "silos"-are increasingly inadequate to meet the requirements of new strategies in complex and turbulent environments. New organizing imperatives are driven by communications technology, the globalization of production and sales, and the transfer of responsibility to outside organizations for core business functions. Organizational designs emphasize innovation, the productivity of the knowledge worker, the management of culture in line with strategy, collaborative working inside and outside the company, informal networks, and organizational mechanisms to manage external relationships with partner organizations. The design and management of organizational processes has become a key issue in design. Organizations are being designed to achieve agility and flexibility, and to accommodate new challenges in employee engagement and motivation.
