At the same time, it would not be nested in an ordinary set of social relations and as such it would not be quickened and intensified by reasons that come with natural love and its forbearance. Thus Thomas writes: “Out of charity, we love more those who are more nearly connected with us, since we love them in more ways. For, towards those who are not connected with us we have no other friendship than charity, whereas those who are connected with us, we have certain other friendships” (Sr II-II.26.7).
