Pre-Hirnantian sediments are palynologically barren in the Holy Cross
Mountains area; the oldest palyniferous samples belong to
beds correlated to the“mucronata”trilobite zone in the
Zalesie Nowe section (pre-persculptusHirnantian: Podhalanska inMasiak et al., 2003) and contain a poorly
preserved, low- to medium-abundance acritarch flora
consisting of undeterminable species of Baltisphaeridium, “Diexallophasis”(=Evittia), Micrhystridium, Ordovicidium, Veryhachium, polygonomorph acritarchs
(e.g., Polygonium, Goniosphaeridium), and Villosacapsula setosapellicula (erroneously attributed to V.cf.irrorataby Masiak et al.; seeMasiak et al., 2003,fig.10-n).
