There are examples of transitional land and water urban aquatic habitats, such as floodplains and wetlands (e.g., the Lobau Biosphere Reserve in Vienna, the Moddergat River in Cape Town and the Wasit Nature Reserve in the United Arab Emirates), which are highly important for the improvement of water quality, the mitigation of the catchment impacts including hydrological extreme events, and the stabilization of biodiversity and landscape resilience.
