Research and development have been successful in improving the established methods and technical developments in fields unrelated to geophysics have been applied to geophysical prospecting. Miniaturization and improvements of electronic equipment and developments of specialized means of transport have eased the physical problems of exploring the more difficult areas. The geological problems are also becoming more difficult as the simpler structures are discovered and the search widens to look for less obvious traps. The advances in information theory and data-handling techniques are being successfully applied to this problem. There is no reason to believe that development of geophysical methods will not be adequate to meet the future demands of the industry.
