In the second example that is shown, the parameters are essentially the same with the exception that thepedestrian is triggered based on distance instead of headway time, and the velocity parameter has beenreplaced with an asterisk that tells STISIM Drive to wait until the pedestrian begins walking before computing itsvelocity. In the first example the velocity was set for 4 feet/second and the action trigger was specified for aclosure time of 5 seconds. In the second example, the pedestrian is set to start walking when the pedestrian is200 feet or less in front of the driver ( 200 {4} ). Because we specified the speed parameter with a *, thesoftware will take the current speed of the driver’s vehicle, their lateral position and the 200 feet away andcompute a pedestrian velocity that will cause a pedestrian collision unless the driver takes some type of action.
