wrote eighteen Piano Sonatas mostly for domestic use. His A minor K. 310 is one of only two in the minor key, written around the time of his mother’s death. Thw four sonatas K. 330-333 include the popular C major Sonata as well as the A major Sonata K. 331 which includes the famous Rondo alla 2Turca as its last movement. The C minor Sonata K. 457, completed in 1784 is the only other one in a minor key. It opens with a Mannheim rocket and breathes fire and passion. It feels prophetic due to Beethoven’s ‘Pathetique’ Sonata written fifteen years later. The spacious second movement is remarkably similar to Beethoven’s A flat Adagio second movement.
