1.1 - General Information
The Auto Etch option for the Lightspeed control is a function that allows the operator to mark the actual A and B ends ofone or more part shapes on a continuous stock length
during the bending cycle. Due to material factors such as elongation and springback, machine tool setup, and other variations in the bending application, the predicted A and B end lengths of a part shape may change after bending. The control will interrupt the bending cycle and prompt the operator to use a device called a tube etcher to manually mark the tube. These marks, or reference points, on the tube will allow an accurate part shape(s) to be cut from the stock length once the bend cycle is complete.

Bend Program (Setup tab) screen values
A and B Marker Offsets:The programmed distance from the A or B end etch
mark of the part shape tothe tangent position. These distances are a function of
the etching tool and can be determinedby measuring the etching wand (as shown
in the graphic below).
If the etching wand has only one mark, then the A and B marker offset values
will be equal.
Stock Length screen values
Stock length:The programmed length of the partbeing bent on the tube stock.

Required length: The length of the tube stock that is required in order to bend the
part or parts.
Actual length:The length of the tube stock.
Amount on A:The programmed length from the A end of the tube stock to the A
end of the part shape. This is the lengthof the tube that will be trimmed from the
A end.
Amount on B: The excess length left on the B end of the tube.
